Lindsay Dee Lohan: a gentile New Yorker
Good things happen to you when you’re young. For many people, their careers don’t start until they’re in their mid-20s or 30s, but for Lindsay Dee Lohan, her success was apparent at birth. Lohan was born on July 2, 1986 and is an accomplished American actress and pop singer. She appeared in magazine ads and television commercials as a child model. At age 11, she starred in a Disney film called The Parent Trap, but her breakout role was in 2004’s The Mean Girls.
Although her parents were successful and wealthy (her father was a businessman and owned a pasta shop and her mother was a Wall Street banker), Lindsay experienced her family’s legal battles. She managed to keep her career steady despite the family squabbles and released two albums while at the same time advancing her film career. Her first recording album, Speak was released in 2005, and the second album, A Little More Personal, in 2005.
Lohan is not your typical blonde and blue-eyed model – a clear favorite of modeling agencies. She’s auburn haired and has freckles, but that didn’t stop her from landing 100 assignments with Toys R Us. Calvin Klein Kids also recruited her and so did Abercrombie Kids. Later, as an adult model, her face appeared in such magazines as Vogue, Elle, Bliss and Blenda.
Lohan’s break in television was a bit shaky at first and she had told her mother that if she did not land the Duncan Hines commercial, she would quit the TV scene altogether. But she did get it and also appeared in over 60 commercials including Jell-O with Bill Cosby. Her experience in commercials landed her some roles in soap operas. In Another World, she played the role of Alexandra “Alli” Fowler.
The actress took an eight-month leave from her studies to shoot The Parent Trap which filmed in England and California, and it grossed US$92 million sales worldwide. Lohan received good reviews from critics who reviewed the film.
Two made for TV movies – Life-Size and Get a Clue also starred Lindsay Lohan; she also played the first episode in Bette, a series dedicated to the life of Bette Midler but it was short-lived. In 2001, she left New York for Los Angeles and hosted ABC’s commercial series for Walt Disney’s 100th anniversary during a re-showing of The Parent Trap. Ashton Kutcher also featured Lindsay on his MTV series Punk’d. In between movie commitments, she recorded soundtracks to display her singing talents. In March this year, she was interviewed by Allure Magazine where she said that she wanted to be recognized as a serious actress.
